                      PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS

          ----------------------------------------------------
Second International Mozart/Oz Conference (MOZ 2004)
          ----------------------------------------------------

                  Charleroi, Belgium, Oct. 7-8, 2004
                     http://www.cetic.be/moz2004

The purpose of MOZ 2004 is to bring together researchers, developers,
educators, and users interested in the Oz language and the Mozart
development platform. Mozart is an advanced platform for intelligent
and distributed applications. Mozart implements Oz, a multiparadigm
language that combines many concepts in a coherent whole with a simple
semantics and an efficient implementation. Oz has particular
strengths in concurrent programming, symbolic programming, constraint
programming, and distributed programming. Mozart and Oz are being
used in research, education, and industry in many areas including
distributed programming, software engineering, programming languages,
constraint programming, simulation, graphical user interfaces,
security, and artificial intelligence.

MOZ 2004 is the ideal opportunity for all persons interested in Mozart
and Oz to meet for both formal and informal discussions.
The following technical events are planned:

   - Five tutorials:
     - General overview of Oz and Mozart with highlights
     - Teaching programming with Oz
     - Constraint programming in Oz
     - Distributed programming in Oz
     - Practical tips on industrial deployment
   - Invited speaker (to be announced)
   - Research paper sessions
   - Application demonstration and poster sessions
   - Panel discussion on the future of Mozart/Oz
   - Vendor sessions

We invite submissions of original papers of up to twelve pages
describing research results or actual running applications, using the
LNCS author format available at:
    http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html
Submissions are encouraged in all areas related to Mozart and Oz,
including design, implementation, application, and lessons learned.
Submissions should be sent by email to moz2004 at cetic.be. Research
papers will be reviewed by the program committee according to their
scientific merits. Applications will be reviewed according to their
intrinsic interest and functionality. We especially encourage
practitioners to submit application papers, which will also appear in
the proceedings.

Mozart is in ongoing development by the Mozart Consortium aided by a
growing number of knowledgeable users. It is released under an Open
Source license for various flavors of Unix, Windows, and Mac OS X.
Complete information and downloads are available at:
    http://www.mozart-oz.org
Mozart comes with a large and growing set of libraries and tools, with
extensive documentation, books, and publications explaining its
technology. The textbook "Concepts, Techniques, and Models of
Computer Programming" (MIT Press, March 2004) and accompanying course
materials have focused interest on Oz for teaching and as a
programming tool. MOZ 2004 is the second international forum on Oz
and Mozart, after the WOz'95 International Workshop on Oz Programming,
held in Martigny, Switzerland, in 1995:

The Mozart Consortium is an informal research collaboration that was
originally founded by Saarland University, Saarbrucken, Germany, the
Swedish Institute of Computer Science (SICS), Stockholm, and the
Universite catholique de Louvain (UCL), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium.
