I vote for the longest possible interval, as I say I would rather not
split the archive at all.

Archiving monthly has two problems:

- To track down a message you have to guess which month, and possibly
  search through a few months.

- Threads are completely broken between monthly archives. See for
  example the 'ozmake and new release' thread in archives for November
  and December 2003.

For me the latter is the killer. I don't understand why so many
archives use it.
