Dear Hackers,

Here is a proposal of Paul Snively for fixing some bugs in the LP
module. In order to take a decision about this, I would like to
understand some things.

Are these fixes meant for the LP code included in mozart/contrib/lp ? In
that case, I'm confused because the patch doesn't match the source code.

Is there any other LP module?

Is there anybody with enough knowledge about the LP module to give an
opinion about the patch?

cheers
Boriss

Ladies and gentlemen,

I've been continuing to attempt to experiment with the LP Module for
Oz, as documented at <http://home.gna.org/xrilpoz/doc/lp/index.html>.
As I described in an email from December 30th, 2006, it's necessary
to apply a patch to the LP module to get any but the first of the
examples to work. I'm attaching that patch for convenience.

I've since had the opportunity to revisit this effort, and found the
answer to something that had been baffling me: the documentation
referred to an example of mixing finite domain constraints and linear
programming, but such an example can't be found in the documentation
linked to above. It can, however, be found in the constraint
extension tutorial, at <http://www.mozart-oz.org/documentation/cpitut/
lp.html#chapter.lp>. However, some aspects of the code in the
tutorial appear to be out of date with respect to the actual
available LP Module. I've attempted to blend the two, but I'm afraid
that I have not been completely successful, and unfortunately, the
part that doesn't work is the part that I'm most interested in--the
combined FD and LP example! When I attempt to Explore that script, I
get immediate failure, and I have to confess that I don't understand
why. I'm attaching my transcription of the examples, which I simply
call "lp-stuff.oz," in the hope that someone will be generous and
patient enough to:

1) Build and install the LP module and
2) Try out the FD/LP example and
3) Tell me where I've gone wrong.

Many thanks and best regards,
Paul Snively
