Great,

there are many examples of self-referential/self-contained program
environments indeed ; just to mention some of them

	Emacs for Lisp 			:-)
	
	Teikade for Java

	All Smalltalk dialects

and this is because a programmer is, first of all, a "reader" instead of a
"writer" and he or she must feel free to explore and modify the
environment itself.
