OS write Space hierarchy Input/Output

Hi.
I was trying to output some logs on stdout , so I coded inside some
proc's a statement like

     {OS.write 1 VirTualString ?Status}

and I got the message that Input/Output from local space is forbidden.
Also using a Open.file as a global variable gets an error
"space hierarchy Request global lock from local space"

After I found a small note in Miscellaneous System Support that say
"The procedures explained here differ from those provided by 
Open and OS in that they can be used to print information in subordinated 
computation spaces to support debugging. "

So I'm bit confused and I would like some explanation about this fact and
some documentation to refer to.

Also , if possible, I would like to know how I can insert inside a procedure a file
write or (at least) a print to stdout of Virtual String (the System.print/show does not
output a suitable sequence)
