Build fails on SuSE 8.1

I managed to compile 1.2.4 (20021104) with gcc 3.2 20020903 (Red Hat 
Linux 8.0 3.2-7) - albeit after I had to fixup a couple of initialisers 
in some virtual function definitions. I haven't had much chance to do 
much testing to see if all is well. What's the state of the art now? Is 
it worth getting a development snapshot or will there be another release 
soon?
