"was" or even "is"? what's the current status?

for me personally it is very important, because (for industrial 
reasons) I'd rather not proceed with language which is not 
even pre-claimed as "one day it should become a mainstream language".

Is there any team at all addressing the task 
"to create _mainstream_ functional language based programming environment"?
