I don't understand what you mean by "mainstream". Here are
some interpretations:
- We definitely want Mozart to be of high quality, so that real
applications can be written in it.
- We also want Mozart to become more popular. We wouldn't mind
if it became as popular as Java or C#, but we are under no
illusion that this is realistic.
- We will maintain the system and support the user community,
within the limits of our manpower and other activities,
because we think it is important.
- As to the duration of this (free) support, it will at least
last for our current funded projects (say, until the end of 2005).
Most likely it will be longer. For example, if Mozart makes any
inroads as an educational environment (for teaching programming),
then the support may continue indefinitely.
- Finally, our goal is not to put in all the "bells and whistles" of
an environment created by a software company. If you want a full
IDE with all the bells and whistles, then you may have to put them
in yourself or find volunteers in the user community. We will help
and encourage any volunteers.
Does this answer your questions? This is how I see things. It does
not commit the rest of the Mozart consortium. But I think that the
other partners in the Mozart consortium have similar views.
